The number of spam bots on the wiki is getting to be slightly ridiculous. While it is practical to delete/ban as they post in the main or user space, the quantity of spammy registrations is significant enough that pre-emptive action by colleagues is impractical.

Has there been any thought given to implementing tougher anti-spam mechanisms? Metawiki has a few example mechanisms listed for ways to combat spam, though I don't know which (if any) are already active on WikiFur. — beeps (talk, contribs) 07:25, 10 January 2022 (EST)

For the last couple of days I've been running Check user on new accounts and adding IP range blocks on ones that appear likely to be account spam. So far it looks like they're down about 90%, and should improve further as I identify and block more of them. --mwalimu (talk) 23:12, 31 January 2022 (EST)
It is duly appreciated 👍🏻 - Spirou (talk) 10:11, 3 February 2022 (EST)
It's kind of tedious to have to revert each edit, delete each page, and choose proper options for the block. The spammers on the other hand, probably do it through a bot. Could we have a better way to handle spammers, like a one-click button to do all that (maybe limited to affecting new and anonymous accounts, as a safety mechanism). --Rat (talk) 13:23, 4 March 2023 (EST)
I'm using a Mac/Safari-centric quasi-app from GitHub, and even thought it helps 1000 times better than just selecting/destroying spam/vandalism one by one, is still a little buggy and needs finger punching back-up from time to time. Also looking for commercial options, but none that are user friendly and doesn't overstep over Curator GreenReaper's proper set up and handling of Wikifur's internals. - Spirou (talk) 02:01, 6 March 2023 (EST)
